Basic Instinct. That movie was widely parodied and the leg crossing scene aped by everybody. But seeing it now? What a stupid, stupid story nowadays. Now that we know a bit about psychological profile, we know that serial killers don't stop because they meet the right person. The right fuckbuddy. Also, there were so many holes in the plot. And characterization.

•Do detectives really fall in love with serial killers?
•As the only suspect in the murder of the rock star, and the killing of her parents, and her professor, policemen and the neighbour's rabbit (oh, sorry, wrong movie) don't you think that she would be stashed in the can? Probably solitary confinement.
• Somebody who doesn't wear underwear to a police interview would be taken away and dressed properly.
• Anybody who doesn't take their hands out of their pockets when a policeman has a gun pointed at them and told to take their hands out of their pockets deserves to be shot to death.
• Do you think the writer masturbated at each fuck scene he wrote into the thing?
• What is it with fanboy writers and lipstick lesbians?

Anyway, I never saw the movie when it first came out and seeing it yesterday made me hoo haw at the implausibility of the whole thing and the really bad acting. Carolco also came out with Terminator 2 the same year and busted their balls. It took several years fighting over who owned the rights for Terminator 3.

What movies did you see that you or the general public think was so damn cool then but look positively stupid now?

I'm also thinking Body Heat. A very lame '80's attempt to recreate '40's Film Noir. Really piss poor story and acting.
