16th-Jun-2008 12:36 pm - A Law Nobody Wants
Emotional advisory ranting
Canadian Prime Minister has a tin ear for what the Canadian public want. They don't want this law.
The law he is trying to get passed gives the green light for the RIAA to sue people suspected of downloading music and videos.

More intrusion we don't need. Today a law has been passed making it illegal to smoke in the car with a child in it. This comes right after a law passed that makes it illegal for store owners to display cigarettes. So they have to obscure the cigarettes behind drawers.

I don't smoke but freedom is only freedom when everybody has access to it, not just the people we like or agree with.

These well-intentioned laws always backfire because a group of people will come forward and demand that the government restrict someone else's freedom to do something whether it be organizing a protest on behalf of the unpopular or partaking in a politically incorrect substance. (Such as drinking. These laws will open up for the prospect of another Prohibition).

So like a one-two-three punch in the gut these laws, all passed in 2008, curtail more freedoms, making the government ever more intrusive. The cigarette fines are both $250.00, the fines for being "caught" downloading music is up to the RIAA lawyers.

What's next on the agenda? What does Bush & Harper & Co. have next for us?
